Willa is ONE!

As if Avery starting school was big enough, our Willa turned ONE the following weekend! Willlllly!

I had big plans for her first birthday party (which was supposed to be over Labor Day weekend). However, Willa & I came down with a yucky stomach bug. We rescheduled the party on her actual birthday but unfortunately the date didn't work for everyone. So we kind of just went with it and called it good. She was dealing with a yucky cold so our birthday cake and present opening was postponed due to much needed 4 hour nap. Poor girl! Kind of got the shaft this year - which means next year will be big and grand! :)

The weather on her actual birthday was amazing so we ended up spending the evening walking around Chalco and playing on the nature playground. At this point, Willa was on the verge of walking so she loved exploring the playground and watching everything Avery did.

A few things to note about this sweet Willa girl - when she is excited or happy she kicks her right leg as fast as possible, she still thinks mom is the cat's meow, has 6 teeth!, her hair is starting to get curly!, absolutely LOVES to dance (even with the tiniest bit of music she starts swaying that body), is learning new words all the time, has some real stranger danger :( and still gives a very serious face to those people she is unsure about.

We have had so much fun watching her grow this past year! She has been the perfect little addition to our family. As i'm writing this, I am thinking of all the new things she has learned in just a month (her actual birthday was September 11th). We love you so much!

Avery Starts Pre-K!

We have a preschooler on our hands! Our Avery started Pre-K last week. It is three mornings a week for an entire school year. We've been talking a lot about going to school and meeting new friends and learning new things. Avery has been so excited. She loves going to Tam's but I do think she's been ready for a little change of pace.

I ended up taking her first day of school off because daycare was closed. It worked out great - I was able to soak in this big day. Our little fam walked in to school together to drop off. Lots of parents taking pictures, giving hugs. We gave Avery hugs and kisses and she just kind of stood there trying to figure out where to go. A teacher came over and suggested sitting and playing with a few girls next to us. Avery sat down and started playing right away. I did pretty good but lost it as we walked out. I had to walk quick to the car so no one saw me cry..ha! Lots of different emotions for this mom!

Once Willa and I got home, I felt like a lost puppy. Willa and I were so excited to get sis that we got there about 10 minutes early :)

So far we have been having so much fun hearing about Avery's days, looking in her backpack to see everything she's been up to or what 'homework' she has and getting her involved with her little activities. She started on a micro soccer league and has had her first game. She is showing us which 'friends' go to her school on the field. I can't help but already love that it feels like a great little community to be a part of. I am really looking forward to her future here.

She has one particular little friend that comes and greets her in the mornings and waves bye as we leave. Avery says she has lots of friends but can't remember any of their names but they are all girls :)

I truly cannot believe Greg and I have a daughter in SCHOOL. Feels like we just got out of school ourselves! (okay that was almost 10 years ago...)

It (was) August

I'm slacking on my blog posts! I wrote this sometime in August...

As we wrap up the end of summer, I thought I'd share some more photos of what we've been up to. It's bittersweet knowing summer is coming to an end. However, we have lots of exciting things to look forward to come September!

Greg & I were able to enjoy a couple kid-free nights while the girls stayed in Lincoln with my parents!

Soaring Wings!

Happy 1st Birthday to our favorite Jude boy!

Because Harry Potter flippin' rocks and snapchat had this amazing filter one Sunday!

Avery got her face painted before the Nebraska Epilepsy Walk!

We've had some beautiful, cool evenings this August. Such a nice break from the humidity. An evening walk around the 'hood is often how we end the day. With Avery new found love of riding her bike, we get around much quicker ;)

Rainy Sundays = a trip to Barnes & Noble. Avery found a book about going to school and Willa picked out some first birthday gift ideas!

Second dentist appointment for Avery. Dr Dana told her about flossing and she's been all about it.

Baby girl is 11 months! Perfect addition to our family!

I know I've said it before but this girl loves to eat! My kind of girl!

Open House for Pre-K. Avery was excited she found Mary outside :)

5th Annual JDRF walk, first time it's ever been chilly!

Celebrating Traci's 30th! Small town bars + party bus = fun times!

Greg is my biggest supporter! Love him! Made it to my goal of one year!

Dinner Club went camping!

This lil gal is determined!

June & July Stuff

June & July have flown by with so many fun things going on. Here's what we've been up to!

  • Greg's company outing at Sokol Park. Lots of fun activities for all, including miniature golf!
  • Willa really got in to eating table food. Still has baby food but loves eating what we have. She is an amazing eater and we joke with Avery that we think little sis has a bigger appetite :)
  • We celebrated our 5-year wedding anniversary! Lunch at Blue and a stroll around the Magnolia (to reminisce) were a great way to spend the day.
  • Attempted the Taco Ride - first time in 2 years...100 degree-day plus being out of shape was a bad combo for our group.
  • Celebrated my BFF turning 30! Yay Sara!
  • Taken multiple trips to the zoo. Avery's favorite parts include: kingdom of the night and the baby elephants.

  • Annual Shanle family reunion. Didn't know about 75% of the people there but it was a fun little road trip with the family
  • Avery participated in a Pre-K camp at Prairie Life with a little friend. She had so much fun. We learned two things from the camp 1) she is totally ready for Pre-K come this fall and 2) the girl still needs a little afternoon nap (good thing class is in the morning)
  • Willa has 4 teeth coming in, currently is waving, pointing with her index finger, trying to say 'sis', says 'ya' to everything and loves hugging her baby dolls. This little lady is growing way too fast!
  • We've spent countless hours swimming this summer. An hour after work, a weekend evening after yard work (with Uncle Maddios after), crashing a friends pool or before nap time - we are loving our time splashing and soaking up the sun. These girls are seriously so much fun!

A golfer may be in her future?

Grilled cheese! Yum!

Taking sis for a spin..!

Sometimes Mom sneaks over to the pool over her lunch break and lays out ;)

Taco Ride! Sweatyyyyy

Day Date in the Old Market!

I'm 9 Months Old and no longer want to lay for more than 2 seconds!

Mimi watched the girls the entire time we were in Jamaica. She's the best!

Happy 30th, Sara! 1912's rooftop was amazing!

High school Girls :)

Avery was trying to bribe Willa to take a selfie by luring her with food...
