Lavosh = delish! We have been loving lavosh lately and it's a good alternative to carby pizza crust. It's basically a huge water cracker that is ready-made. Kristin and I put our cooking skills to work last night and made 2 variations of lavosh for dinner: BBQ chicken and Buffalo chicken. Greg was very excited! And Kristin learned a thing or two about cooking. I love when people share my food enthusiasm :)

We were expecting 1-2 inches of snow last night but woke up to 5 inches! Surprise! Avery was fascinated with looking out the living room window at it.

Can't wait to go home tonight and snuggle with my family (including Kristin) and watch our Wednesday night TV shows. I should've put something in the crock pot darnit!

Birthday Week/Weekend

We had a busy week/weekend. Mainly because I celebrated my 27th birthday! I feel like a had a 5-day long birthday festival. Dinners, pampering, was fun! But I am worn out today. I just can't hang like I used to.

Avery spent the weekend with my parents in Lincoln so it was just Greg and I. I have to admit, it felt strange. Although it was nice to get some cleaning done and not have to watch the clock, I missed her and her adorable smile with her 2 little teeth poking through. My parents brought her up on Sunday and I was literally pacing around the house not knowing what to do with myself. Thank you mom & dad for watching baby girl :)

Friday evening was my company Christmas party. We had tons of fun - catered food, bartender and a driver for the end of the evening (which we definitely took advantage of). I work for a small company so it's nice to have functions where you can mingle with all of your co-workers. Greg and I ended up staying until about 2AM! WTF?! I haven't stayed out that late in over a year. The night is a little bit of a blur BUT we had lots of laughs :)

Saturday I made my way down to Lincoln for a hair appointment. In the evening a small group of friends met for dinner and a concert in honor of my birthday. Although we were beat from the night before, we had a blast. The music was amazing and again, it had been awhile since we had been to the Slowdown for concert.

I am constantly reminded of how fortunate I am to have the people in my life that I do. I loved every minute of my birthday weekend but most of all those who I spent it with. So here we are, back to Monday. It's so gloomy here and I love it! Bring on the rainy, spring weather!

Typical night at our house. NEED to get some locks!

Watching The Bachelor, Greg even went to get us Culvers :)

Avery wearing her 12-18 month jammies!

Helping Kristin with her homework :)

Avery tried her first cheese quesadilla from Chipotle and ate the entire thing!

At the concert! Satchel Grande!

They seriously rocked! Had the whole audience dancing! Local band with excellent tunes.

With a some of the lovely ladies that joined me in celebrating! Not pictured but also present: Sarah, Erika, Crissa
Taking up to 6 steps now on her own!

Monday Already?

The most hated day of the week...I have a few shows on in the evening that get me through the day but other then that, Mondays stink!

We had a nice little weekend at the Haus residence. We took advantage of the nice weather and went on two walks, had munchies and drinks with our neighbors on Saturday evening, caught up on laundry and cleaned.

Avery woke up on Saturday morning and said a new word 'baby'! She also took 4 steps in a row for me yesterday! She really picks and chooses when she wants to walk. I also think she is cutting a few more teeth - I could tell by the droolyness yesterday and the fusiness this morning. I feel for her, I know it must be painful.

I haven't mentioned this in my blog yet, but my sister, Kristin, is living with us 3 days a week! She has started nursing school up in Omaha and is living with us Wednesday through Friday for this first semester. It has been so much fun having her around. We have already made Wednesdays our TV night that consists of watching The Bachelor and Deception in our pj's.

Our walk on Friday evening! Daddy was helping a co-worker with a fence.

I got to meet Olivia O'Connor, my co-worker Emily's, baby! She was a dolly!

Avery helping Aunt Sissy and Alexa work on homework!

Learning to use a big girl cup! Wasn't entirely successful but she was motivated to try.

Tool time with daddy! Setting up Kristin's bookshelf in the guest room.

Miss Independent wanted to feed herself on Friday - it got a little messy...

Just being goofy with my sweetheart on Sunday!

Playing with her phone under the chair :)

Avery-10 Months & STEPS!!

Avery turned 10 months on January 14th which means in 2 months she will be considered a toddler!? No way! I cannot believe how quickly time has flown. We are already starting to plan her big first birthday party. Just doesn't seem possible.

I am proud to announce that Avery has taken her first few steps this week!! Unfortunately the first time it happened I was at the grocery store. Greg called and was so excited. She took another step for Nanna yesterday and then another when we got home for Greg and I. We knew it was coming - she has been getting more and more daring when it comes to reaching, standing on her own, and cruising from furniture piece to piece. By her 1st Birthday, she will be running around - so crazy!

I had a big moment of frustration this week as well. Avery is once again catching a cold. She woke up on Monday with a stuffy nose and by the time I picked her up on Monday night her nose was running like a faucet. She has been in good spirits but I am just waiting for the fever and ear tugging. I know it's coming but am crossing my fingers that it doesn't. Monday night I googled all night long how common it was for children to get sick at daycare. Most people had similar stories to mine - every couple of weeks something new comes until their immune system is built up. Most people said they were gone from work 20 days the first year of daycare....ummm really? I am praying that the spring weather will help with all this sickness.

I have been writing this past week about the new things that Avery is doing so I won't go in to much detail. But wow, it seems like every week she learns a handful of new things. She is adjusting to daycare much better. Yesterday when I went to pick her up she noticed me and then went back to playing! Before she would crawl over to me as fast as possible to pick her up. Knock on wood that this keeps up. Nanna calls her peanut, among many others. It cracks me up - she really is petite but such a good eater!

Avery is ready for Easter!

Mom, what's for dinner? I know I shouldn't have but I let her play in the fridge last night while I cooked. She had more fun taking food out of the drawers! It kept her preoccupied for a good 20 minutes :)

Weekend Highlights

My 4 favorite highlights from this past weekend (in no particular order):

1. Sleeping in on Saturday morning and making homemade biscuits and gravy for Greg, Avery and my brother, Jon. Avery ate an entire biscuit, waffle and bottle for breakfast!

2. The DIY roman shade that Greg made me (with the help of my brother who spent the day with us). It turned out great. So lucky to have a handy-man hubby who doesn't mind helping me with projects.

3. Pioneer Woman-themed dinner club on Friday night. Always a fun time with good food and games.

4. Hearing Avery say 'nigh night' for the first time on Sunday night. She is such a sponge these days. Other new achievements this week: dancing, learning to go down the bottom basement step, giving high fives (to daddy only!).

Jamaica Trip Booked!

So excited that Greg and I have finally booked our trip to Jamaica! Sara and Chop's wedding will be one for the books! Now hurry and get here July...

Can't wait to have some fun in the sun with these ladies!
Things can get a little crazy if you can't tell :)
(Very few would understand our 'butt' dance)

This may explain the fussiness and restless nights this past month - Avery cut her first 2 teeth! You can barely seem but they are sure sharp! Toothless grin no longer!

Day with Uncle J & Aunt Sissy

Greg and I have been battling sinus infections... I'm not going to complain too much because they are nothing compared to what is going around. I am praying that we stay clear of the flu. I heard on the radio this morning this is the worse the flu has been in 10 years. I think I shall go stock up on my elderberry extract over lunch.

Sickness also took over Nanna's house, so last week Uncle Jon and Aunt Sissy came up to spend a day with Avery! They had lots of fun! Here are some photos Kristin sent me of the day:

Thank you for watching our babe for us, guys! We REALLY appreciate it :)

Update on Life!

First and foremost, Happy 2013! I am excited to see what this year brings us! 2012 was such a fantastic year - it will be hard to top!

Here is a update on our lives since the holidays. Avery is growing like a weed and learning new things everyday. Greg and I are getting back in to the swing of our jobs. We have been spoiled with these long weekends. We are all suffering from the cold that is going around. It started with Avery last week and has worked its way to Greg and myself. It seems like everyone you talk to is sick. Yuck!

What's new with Avery: this little sweetie is way busy!! Here are some stats on what she is up to:

  • Still no teeth! Crazy, I know! But she eats big girl food regardless. She is really loving shredded cheese. She picks each shred up individually and eats it :)
  • She is cruising and standing on her own. It's only a matter of time before she begins walking. She has also mastered crawling up the stairs.
  • Avery can give kisses! Wide-mouthed, wet kisses. She will kiss on the lips (we've stopped that since all this sickness) and will kiss her baby doll.
  • Words that she is saying: 'all done', 'no no no', 'duh' for dog, 'dat' for that, 'aih ca' for I can, daddy, mom, nana and 'uh uh' for uh oh.
  • She is on a pretty good schedule and if she gets off can easily get back on. Naps at 10:00 and 2:00 and goes to bed around 8:30.
  • Avery claps and waves bye bye.
  • Avery LOVES to point! She points at EVERYTHING, especially noses. Over Christmas she'd point to the ornaments on the tree. That was code for 'let me grab them!'.
  • Baby has also learned object permanence, which is good and bad. Bad because she knows when we drop her off at Nanna's, put her to sleep, go in to another room that we are somewhere that she can't see us. She is at the peak age for separation anxiety and she is definitely showing signs of it.
  • Books and reading are her favorite! She gets that from her mama :) Her favorite books are ones with animals in them. She gets that from her dada ;)

Kisses for dolly!

The Haus' watched Rupert again! Rupert loved to be around Avery, however, he was more of a nuisance to her. He is such a good dog.

Ear infection #3... trying some of this to see if it helps....

Greg will kill me for posting this picture BUT this is a typical Saturday morning at our house! Avery wakes up and comes into bed with us. She LOVES finding daddy's nipples and armpit hair! LOL

Avery got her big girl carseat for Christmas. She looks adorable in it.

What I thought would be a quick project turned into an all-day project...for Greg. Let's just say there will be no more stenciling in our home :(

New Year Eve 2013. We opted for a low-key date night. The last date night we had was in the summer! Greg's parents watched Avery and we enjoyed dinner and a movie.

She looks so big in this pic!
Can't wait to document more of the coming year. I am hoping this next month involves a lot of relaxation and family time.
