Mama Needs Wine

Yep, you read correctly. Miss Avery is now crawling and pulling up ON EVERYTHING which leads to hurting herself and to crying. Sometimes there is just no containing her. She seems to gravitate towards the most dangerous, un-kid friendly items she can find. And even when she hurts herself on them, she tries to pull up again and again....and again.

Greg and I have been so busy keeping our eye on her that it's hard to get things done around the house. I'm already missing the days she was content just rolling over.. And that, folks, is why mama needs wine....because life just got that much more busy.

Trying to slide under the dresser. She then attempted to pull up on the hardware....

Crawling over to the outlet because, surprise! she loves the blowdryer...

Holding herself up on the couch. She has now learned how to pull up on the coffee table.
This was my attempt to contain her so that I could simply take the sheets off the bed. Was only a matter of time before she figured out how to stand up in there.

Moral of the story: can't hold a good woman down for long!!

All Things Fall

Reader alert: this post will be long. I took some good pictures this weekend and since you all know how much I love this time of year, I feel it's necessary to post a good majority of them on here :)

Give a girl a bag of chips and she's content...just like her mama!

This weekend began with our annual Richter pumpkin carving. Every year my mom sets out the pumpkins around our backyard as if it was a pumpkin patch and each of us goes out and picks 'our pumpkin'. We tried something new this year and didn't allow stencils for our pumpkins - free-hand only! It turned out to be fun and neat to see everyone's designs. We ended the evening with my all-time favorite Halloween movie - Monster Squad. I love when my family gets together. We laugh so hard. Avery became even more fascinated with Charlie. Unfortunately the feeling wasn't mutual. After one tug on the ear, Charlie learned to move away the minute he saw Avery. Oh well.

Always stealing the show!

Avery-sized pumpkin!

Greg, Avery and my pumpkins are on the far right. Greg was VERY secretive about what he was carving until he was done. And boy, was he proud!

Jon & Caitlin with their masterpieces.

Saturday was BUSY! We drove back to Omaha so that Avery and I could attend my co-worker, Emily's, baby shower while Greg tended to our yard. We officially became 'those neighbors' with our leaves blowing into everyone's yards. But Emily's shower was so sweet and all of my other co-worker's got to see Avery. Everyone loved her and she was a good girl the entire time.

Emily is expecting her baby girl on New Year's Eve!

Right after the baby shower, we attended Henry's first birthday party at Gifford Farms. LOVED the birthday theme and it was a great fall day! And sweet, sweet Hen couldn't have been more adorable. Avery and Henry really enjoyed staring and each other and playing with their coats....early stages of flirting perhaps?!

Matching North Face's!

Silly baby!

After a long day of running around, we decided to squeeze one more thing in to the day: Spooktacular at the zoo. Busy day + sitting in her carseat - a good nap + chilly weather = ONE CRABBY BABY. Avery is never too fussy but after a melt-time with trying on her costume and getting her into her carseat, we decided to scratch the costume for the zoo. She somewhat enjoyed being there. Next year we will try to space out the events...

Henry participating in a game at the zoo.

This was Avery's attitude the entire night. Not a whole lot of smiling going on, which is rare!

Getting some apple cider, I loved this little booth for some reason.

To top off the weekend, Sunday evening Greg and I attended the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert. It was one concert on my bucket list so I'm glad we got to go. It wasn't everything I hoped it would be, BUT we had amazing seats and good company.

So here goes another week....cheers to loving life!

Daycare Found!

Our prayers have been answered - we have found an in-home daycare for Avery!! This is such a huge relief for me - mommies out there will understand if you've been in my shoes. Weeks went by and I was getting pretty discouraged. I literally called over 20 places - some were full, others cost more than my mortgage a month. I don't know how some people afford it.

Anyways, one afternoon Greg called me at work and suggested calling a lady who had a sign on her fence that we pass that's down the street from our house. I was reluctant simply because I didn't know anyone that had gone there. But at this point, I had called all of the centers and in-home places that were given to me so we were out of options.

The minute I called and the lady answered I knew I would like her. She goes by 'Nana' as luck would have it - she had one position open. When we went to meet with her, I just knew it was a great place for Avery. She runs her daycare as if the children are going to Grandma's. She gives lots of hugs and kisses and treat the children as if they are her own. In addition, she was a teacher in the Millard district for 19 years and started a daycare once all of her children moved out of the house.

I loved the sense of community the daycare had. And after talking to her references, doing 2 background checks - one through a government friend and the other through Health and Human services (I know we are crazy) we were reassured that Avery will be in good hands.

And so it begins, this crazy thing called daycare. I know that Avery will love being surrounded by the kids and having new toys everyday. I am not looking forward to her getting sick but that comes with the territory. Avery starts on November 5th. I'm sure there will some tears from me. I am so happy that we've found someone new I feel like I can trust but I will truly miss Caitlin coming. She has been such a blessing for us and especially little Avery.

Today I went to a luncheon and the guest speaker was great. He talked not only about overcoming his disabilities but to see the good in everything and live life to the fullest. One part of 'living life to the fullest' that stuck out to me was when he talked about doing the most you can in a day - not just to go through the day-to-day motions of life.

I liked that because I am not afraid to admit that my life can sometimes be pretty mundane, especially during the week. Although it's hard to do too much during the week (we have a schedule to follow for baby!) I do think it's important to be active and break out of the routine every now and then. I don't want to live my life in front of a TV or sitting indoors. Life is short and I want to savor the time I have on earth as much as I can.

With that being said, it's time to go home and enjoy my evening with the ones I love most :)

It was a fun weekend!

It was a super fun weekend filled with lots of family time. Greg's parents came up on Thursday evening and stayed until Sunday. We enjoyed our cozy evenings watching the Cardinals and walking around the Old Market with the beautiful fall weather. Avery was so happy to see them and, of course, had lots of new things to show them!

Saturday evening we had our second annual haunted house and dinner night. Jon, Caitlin, Kristin & Pete came up to Omaha for dinner at Roja and then Mystery Manor. We were quite impressed with Mystery Manor - definitely more scary than Scary Acres last year!

This is truly my favorite time of year. I just love everything about fall. And even though today is gloomy, I love this weather (I like to say it's Twilight weather). This next week is probably the best part about fall - Halloween! I am really looking forward to all of the things we plan to do in the next week to celebrate it - spooky movies, candy, Spooktacular at the Zoo, Pumpkin Patch, chilly weather, Richter annual pumpkin carving, crockpot meals and seeing Avery in her Halloween costume!!!

Here are some photos from the weekend. Scott, my father-in-law, also got some great photos I need to post when I get home.

Giving Mimi some hugs.

Avery is always the entertainment.

Having fun at Upstream Brewery!

Dinner at Roja!

Waiting in line for Mystery Manor.

I love my hubby - we don't get enough of these pictures together!

Happy Avery!

Jessie Beck's Wedding

My dear friend, Jessie Beck, got married this past weekend. I always refer to her as 'Beck' so now that her last name has changed I'm not sure what I am going to call her! I lived with Beck and Sara when I first moved up to Omaha. I like refer to that summer as the best summer of my life.

Beck was one of the most beautiful brides I have seen. Kenny is a lucky man! My favorite parts of the day were watching Kenny and Beck pose for their photos (you could see the love in their eyes) and the flowers. They were gorgeous. I wasn't able to get many pictures because I was pretty busy throughout the day being a personal attendant, but here are the few that I took:

MOH and bride at Mod Salon

Chryssy, Kenny's daughter, ready for the big day!

I was obsessed with the flowers - peonies and garden roses are my fav!

MOB helping her soon-to-be son!

Where they guys were for the majority of the day....

Sweet Sophie and her mommy.

Getting ready.

Exchanging rings.

Time to let loose before the reception. Love these girls!

Nicole and I were personal attendants. SO thankful we did it together :)

May not be the most appropriate but I think Beck is gorgeous in the pic.

MOH speech!

Greg and I. We only lasted until 9:00 I was so tired!!

Oh yes and I cannot forget to include a picture of my rehearsal dinner food. It was mmmmmgoooood! Dinner was at Millard Roadhouse, which is ironically very close to our house. Greg has wanted to try it for awhile and I was never in the mood but after going we will definitely be back.

Welcome to the Midwest.

Avery - 7 Months

Miss Personality turned 7 months yesterday. She is a busy bee! She wants to play with everything, touch everything and drool on everything! She is so curious with the world around her and is so proud of herself when she learns something new. Yesterday Avery really mastered her wave. All morning we practiced 'bye-bye Dada' and waved - for the rest of the day she would say 'dada' and wave. She waved to EVERYONE at the baby shower we attended yesterday. It was adorable, if I do say so myself.

New things this past month:

  • Scooting - Avery gets on her hands and knees and will scoot backwards or do a weird hop forwards. Or she will stay in the crawling position and bounce. She hasn't quite mastered the coordination of crawling...yet. Truthfully, I am not quite ready for that because I know what comes next - baby-proofing the house. That also means keeping the wood floors clean so Avery doesn't try and eat dust bunnies and crumbs off the floor....

  • Different fruits/veggies - She has been introduced to mango, pears, green beans, carrots, potato, acorn squash, oatmeal and apple juice. She isn't a huge fan of the veggies but if I mix in cereal she will gobble it up.

  • Fascination with non-toys - seems as though you can put every toy in front of her and the only ones she really wants are the things she shouldn't have: remote controls, phones, iPad, keys...

  • Sleeping positions - Avery likes practicing crawling so much she usually winds up in the crawling position in her sleep! It scared me at first but she doesn't seem to mind waking up with her buns in the air! Speaking of sleeping, when Avery wakes up or doesn't want to be in her crib, she has figured out how to peek through her bumper. It is so funny!

The bumper is permanently pulled down in this spot from Avery peeking.

Oh Avery, you never cease to amaze us with your discoveries. Mommy and daddy think you are so smart and couldn't be more proud of you. You are so sweet and no one can believe how good and easy you are. Everybody comments on how pretty your big, brown eyes are. Daddy loves making you laugh and mommy loves our cuddles before you go to bed at night. You are God's greatest gift to us. Happy 7 Months!

LOVES books. Finally, something of me that I see in her! :)

I love my animals.

Lowering the crib in case Avery tries to escape one night...
