June Taco Ride

Last night we went on the Taco Ride for Sara's 26th birthday! Lately it has been terribly hot and humid and yesterday was no exception! But our group came decked out in their 80's gear in celebration of Sara and we all had a good time.

By the time we got to Margaritaville (halfway point going to Mineola - 6miles) we were all dripping sweat. The best (and only) part of it being so miserable outside was that the trail wasn't congested and Tobey Jack's Steakhouse wasn't too packed. You usually have to stand around and wait for a table until a group leaves. Once we got home, a shower has never felt so good. Greg especially had a good time and maybe a few beers too many - I caught him raiding the fridge or leftover pizza and chocolate chips?! HA

Here are a few pictures from the evening:

Margaritas in Margaritaville!

The group that biked! 3 others met us in Mineola for tacos.

Birthday girl with her gift!

At the infamous Tobey Jacks in Mineola.

Always a band playing - love it!
As I look through these pictures, it makes me realize how much fun this is. Don't get me wrong, it's a workout but I love that it doesn't matter who you are, how fast you ride or how old you are - everyone is welcome. We've tried to make it a point to go once a month over the summer and so far we have!

Simplicity

My Avery. So happy. And so happy about the simplest things! (Most babies are!)

The other night we went for a walk. And every time I stopped to check on her she looked at me with the biggest smile on her face. She really loves the outdoors and I think the fresh air is good for her. But it really sparked a thought in my mind.

Isn't it fascinating how babies are so happy with the simplest things?

Seeing mom or dad walk through the door, playing a game, having a full tummy, waking up from a good night's sleep, taking a bath, going on a stroller ride, having a 'conversation' with someone. And then it sparked another thought in my mind.

I need to appreciate the simple things in my own life.

I understand that the thinking capabilities in a baby versus an adult are much different but it really made me realize that I often take for granted little things. I've made it a personal goal of mine to live in the moment and to appreciate some of the simpler things in life: seeing Greg walk through the door, appreciating that we live in a safe neighborhood where our family can take a walk, being grateful for a good night sleep even with a baby. The list could go on and one but you get my point. Oh the things you can learn from such a tiny creature. You start looking at life through a different lense.

CWS 2012

The sound of the crowd cheering. The smell of food vendors that line every corner. Watching people, young and old, anxiously holding their ticket; awaiting their seat. The die-hard tailgaters in the parking that have been coming for years. The beer tents packed full of people decked out in their college gear. And the summer sun bearing down day in and day out. Welcome to the College World Series.

I've been sucked in to the hype, just as most people are. This is our third year going down there and I can honestly say that I look forward to it every summer. And every year it is HOT and MUGGY and there is a storm at some point during the two weeks this takes place in Omaha. I don't go down to watch the games, though. I go down to see the people, play bags in the parking lot with friends and to make memories.

This past year was a little different now that we have Avery. It wasn't as easy to grab our cooler and drive down after work to tailgate - but that's okay. One evening we took Avery down with the Wagner's to go to a game. We ended up skipping the game and tailgating with Sara and Chop for a bit. Avery did great and enjoyed the people watching herself. The second time I went down there, I got to watch the game in my company's skybox seats. I brought Sara and we had a girls night. It was a blast!

We came, we saw, we conquered. And now it's over. But luckily, we have next year to look forward to. One of the many reasons I love to call Omaha 'home'.

Our Week Through Pictures

I really like writing one post about what we've been up to this past week - means I get to cover everything in one post, pictures and all :)

So here we go!

As I begin to upload these photos, I realize that we don't get many pictures taken as a family. I am going to try and do a better job of getting more of those!

Avery got a new toy this week! Still a tad too little but she enjoyed sitting upright and looking at all of the colors. She didn't attempt to reach for any of the toys but watched in awe as Greg and I played with them. Our living room now looks like a toy room, which brings me to my next picture....

We are finally getting around to painting stripes in our basement! We are painting them on the west wall in the basement. With some help from Greg, I was able to do this portion of it after work while Avery took a nap. This area of the house will (hopefully) be where most of the larger toys go. Clutter drives me nuts and that's exactly what our living room is right now.

So working on the basement inspired me to starting getting some ideas for our kitchen - one day! I have always loved a green kitchen. I love the simplicity of the space.

Eating area - Cape Cod look with a few contemporary elements. Perfection.

I cannot get enough pictures of Avery sleeping! She looks like such a little angel, don't you think? Lately she has been moving every direction possible in her crib. It amazes us.

Changing baby over lunch. Lately Avery has been 'talking' and carrying on a conversation like crazy. It is seriously the cutest thing to watch. Her noises even come with some facial animation.

So my next post will be about the CWS that has taken over the city of Omaha! More pictures to come over the weekend!

Twitter

I'm trying to decide if signing up for Twitter was a total waste of time or not. I joined the other day and not quite sure how I feel about it. And truthfully, is the life of a 26-year-old mom/wife/fulltime worker really that interesting?? I think it's kind of hard to understand but am slowly catching on. So far my 'followers' are my sister Kristin, a couple of friends, a possible porn star/virus and Teresa Giudice?!?!

So if anyone wants to follow me, here's my info: https://twitter.com/LibbyHaus

I started to get a little creeped out last night with all of this social media stuff. Between Facebook, this blog, Instagram and Twitter - my life is pretty much an open book and that's probably not a good thing. So my Instagram is now private and I'm going to make my some other things a little more confidential....you never know who's lurking around this stuff!

Father's Day

Greg celebrated his first Father's Day this year! Although most people only celebrate the day of - we celebrated the entire weekend! And why not?! We have a lot to celebrate. Another busy weekend, for sure!

Justyn & Becky's wedding was on Friday night! Avery looked adorable - until she spit up on her dress TWICE, pooped on her bloomers and her hairbow kept falling out. Oh dear.
Good thing we packed her jammies.
After golfing on Saturday both Greg and baby were exhausted.

Greg's Father's Day present! He got the grill on Saturday evening and a couple of hours later he was grilling steaks and mushrooms. Cole came over to join us for dinner, too!

Early morning Father's Day cuddles in our bed.

Sunday we met Sara at Old Chicago (go figure) for our final Father's Day celebration. If you don't know Greg well, his 2 favorite places on earth are Home Depot and Old Chicago.

Daddy and Avery!

Mid-Morning Chuckles

It's Friday and quite frankly, I need a little humor this morning. Feel free to laugh along with me or be offended...take your pick!

Anyone that knows me knows this is pretty darn true.

Probably my favorite of them all!

3 Months!

Avery is 3 months old today! I feel like she is such a big girl but when people see her they say, "Oooh she's so little!" Time is a funny thing because there are days when I feel like Avery has been a part of my life for a long time and then other days I look at the clothing she's outgrown and am amazed at how fast she is changing and growing.

Her features are becoming more distinct. Overall, I still think she looks similar to when she was a newborn. It's funny to hear different people's thoughts on who she looks like. For the most part, people say Greg. But there are a good amount of people that say she looks like me. When you initially look at her, her coloring is without-a-doubt Greg's (lucky girl) so I think it's easy to say she looks like Greg for that reason. But if you look closer, she has my eye shape, my nose and my lips - BUT - all of her facial features are proportioned like Greg's. In my opinion she is just a true mix of us. But they say how a baby looks is always changing so it'll be fun to look back at these posts a year from now to see if we are right or not.

Avery's sleep schedule is still a little inconsistent during the day, but is pretty consistent at night. When put her to bed around 9:30-10:30 by rocking her in her chair until she's asleep and then putting her in her crib for the night. Yes, she's now sleeping in her crib and doing great!! I think she likes the space. She sleeps through the whole night and usually wakes up around 8:00AM. She is so happy in the mornings. Lots of smiles and it's the best time to get her doing tummy time. Because she is inconsistent with napping during the day, sometimes in the evening she can get a little fussy. It's probably time to try and get her on a sleeping schedule during the day. Sometimes her naps are short because she is a very light sleeper and doesn't want to miss out on any action. You can tell she is getting sleepy by the way her hands seem to find their way to her hair. She feels her hair for awhile before leaving her arms above her head while she sleeps.

Avery is also a very good eater! She is almost always hungry on the dot after 2.5 hours. She eats anywhere for 4-6 ounces at a time and we still burp her twice during a feeding. Since I've returned back to work, it's been much harder to pump. So in the mornings we give her one bottle of formula and then the rest of the day breastmilk. She had no problem transitioning over to a little formula and still has very healthy dirty diapers. :) Next month we will probably start her on some cereal. I can't wait to see what she thinks. She is also learned to 'help' hold her bottle. Sometimes with both hands, sometimes with just one.

Playtime is much more interactive now. Avery will talk (coooo) and smile lots, especially if you are smiling back at her. She loves to listen you making noises and tries to mimic the best she can. She gets her little scowl on her face when she is really trying to understand something - it's too funny. Avery now grabs for her toys and is able to hold a toy in one hand and bring it to her mouth. Speaking of her mouth, she has also discovered that she can stick her fist in her mouth with usually results in her gagging and I hate that. She loves to feel things with her feet and sure loves to kick. Cracks me up because when she was in my belly she was a kicking machine.

She is now able to focus much more on objects and when Greg or I leave the room she usually turns her head to try and find where we went. She can now see me from the couch if I'm on the stairs. When she sees someone she recognizes her eyes will get big and will start kicking really fast. We haven't found anything that scares her yet - maybe she will be daring and brave like her daddy?! Avery has excellent neck and back support and loves to stand and sit in her bumbo to play or watch TV. I already wrote this in a post, but she is also working on rolling. She rolled over from her tummy to her back for Greg last week!

Baby loves bath time and loves being outside. She would probably kick around in the water for an hour if she could - or until the water gets too cold. Going outside with her in the ultimate calmer if she's in a crabby mood. Loves the wind, the trees...when we go on stroller rides she doesn't make a peep and will usually fall asleep.

Our Avery is growing so fast! I am so happy with how lucky we've been with her - healthy, content, happy...I couldn't ask for more!

Anniversary Weekend

My motto this past weekend was to just 'go with the flow'. Greg was off the entire weekend and Roberta and Katy (Mimi & Aunt Katy) came up from Tulsa to watch Avery so it was our weekend to celebrate 1 year of marriage.

Our original plan was to simply go swimming on Saturday and camp out at Mahoney that evening. But our plans slightly changed...

On Friday we decided to have a night out with Chop & Sara. It had been awhile since just the 4 of us went out.

And things started to get a little crazy...

We went to Benson & to Dundee. The night was a blast but I realized I can't hang like I used to...bad headache the next morning!

Morning cuddles with Mimi

Instead of swimming at Mahoney, we took Sara up on her invite to tube down the Elkhorn River with a group of people. We joked the entire day that we were celebrating our anniversary 'white trash style'. Even made a special trip to Wal-Mart to make the day real trashy!

Crappy Wal-Mart food before floating...
Our float trip took 5 hours! By the time we were done, I was exhausted and didn't feel like driving out to a camp site. I knew Greg was bummed so he decided to set up his own camp site in our backyard...tiki torches and all! So we spent the night camping in our yard.

Our very special gift that Avery made (with the help of Roberta and Katy). So memorable - now I need to find a place to hang it! We couldn't believe how big her hands and feet looked.

On Sunday, Greg and I toasted to a good weekend and an even better first year of marriage.  I like this picture with the bottle beside our wedding flutes.

1 Year

LOVE this picture. LOVE our expressions. Seeing each other for the first time the day of our wedding.

Today marks Greg and my 1-year wedding anniversary! I cannot believe that a year has already past. It has gone by so fast and we so much to show for it: new job, new house, new baby. I can't help but laugh at how crazy the year has been. But I wouldn't change a thing. I couldn't be happier with our lives and everything that has happened in the past year.

All day we've been jokingly saying, "Okay, last year at this time of the day, what were we doing??" Hoping tonight will get to try out our cake from the wedding watch the highlights from our wedding video.

And we lived happily ever after. The end.

Our Week Through Pictures

Avery LOVES when you sing to her, I think she is curious as to how your mouth moves the way it does.
(Disregard the messy living room in the background!)

Avery in her OU gear. Pretty sure Greg took her to Hy-Vee in this ensemble!

Volunteering at the zoo - last Friday was Dream Night. An evening where disabled children and their families got to come to the zoo to play games and walk around at their own pace. It was a neat experience.

Annie Valente had her baby shower at our old stomping grounds. Her and Dan moved to North Carolina this past year so it was great to see her.

More bumbo time! Probably watching The Real Housewives of New Jersey!

Aunt Sissy came up to watch Avery while Greg and I went on our first date since she was born!
It was great just to spend time with Greg and laugh.
We ate at Bonefish and went to Snow White & the Huntsman (both were great!)

Avery rolled over for her first time!!! Tummy to back!!
Of course I was at work but Greg was there to capture the moment. We are so proud!
